Strengthening structure:

2 170 m2 of impermeable barrier by execution of secant reinforced (by H-BEAM steel profile) jet-grouting columns (diameter of 1200 mm and length of 14 m length, 90 cm center to center distance) behind the existing quay wall; Seismic improvement by drilling the existing gravity quay wall and execution of 117 additional tangent reinforced (by steel tube) jet- grouting columns (diameter of 1200 mm and length of 6 m length, 120 cm center to center distance) below its base; The whole strengthening structure has been combined jointly with the existing quay wall by means of a RC cap beam.

Aim:

Forming of impermeable barrier behind the quay wall; Seismic improvement by execution of deep foundations – overturning and sliding have been limited.

Unconfined compressive strength of soil-mix material:

16.8 MPa

Testing: Jet-grouting column dimensions have been verified by drilling their center and periphery; Samples have been extracted and tested in the lab for the sake of determining unconfined compressive strength and modulus of elasticity of the soil-mix material.
